Our graphene coolants for data centers come in two forms, and they are not interchangeable. ThermaGraph™ is graphene in deionized water, made for indoor closed-loop liquid cooling. ThermaGraph-D™ is graphene in white mineral oil, formulated as a dielectric for single-phase immersion cooling. Both use graphene at a low loading of 0.05 to 0.20 wt%. This guide helps you decide which one fits the way your servers are cooled. Both products are patent pending and made in Charlotte, NC.
Start with how your servers are cooled
- Cold plates, CDUs or rear-door heat exchangers in a water loop: ThermaGraph™.
- Servers submerged in a single-phase tank: ThermaGraph-D™.
Don't mix the two, and don't use one in place of the other.
ThermaGraph™ for closed water loops
ThermaGraph™ is a graphene nanofluid in deionized water, with no glycol. It is for indoor, conditioned technology cooling loops in closed copper systems where freeze protection isn't specified, including CDU, direct-to-chip (D2C) and rear-door loops. It goes into the same copper with the same pumps. If the loop holds glycol, it is drained first, because ThermaGraph™ is a new fill, not a top-off. In our internal pumped-loop tests it showed a +6% to +18% higher convective heat transfer coefficient (HTC) than a glycol baseline. That is an internal result, not an independent field result, and your own baseline data matters more than ours.
When ThermaGraph™ is not the right fit
Loops that need freeze protection should stay on a glycol fluid. Outdoor or unconditioned loops are not a fit today, and neither are two-phase boiling systems, which need a different product discussion.
ThermaGraph-D™ for single-phase immersion
ThermaGraph-D™ is graphene in Drakeol white mineral oil (CAS 8042-47-5), formulated as a dielectric for boards that sit directly in the fluid. It is made for tanks, not for glycol loops or cold plates. Because boards sit in the fluid, electrical properties matter: check the electrical test results for the specific lot before you energize boards.
How the two compare
| ThermaGraph™ | ThermaGraph-D™ | |
|---|---|---|
| Carrier | Deionized water, no glycol | Drakeol white mineral oil |
| Cooling method | Indoor closed loops: CDU, D2C, rear-door | Single-phase immersion tanks |
| Electrical | Electrically conductive | Formulated as a dielectric |
| Graphene loading | 0.05 to 0.20 wt% | 0.05 to 0.20 wt% |
What the lab results do and do not show
Heat transfer numbers are measured in very different ways across the industry, so compare like with like. We explain the difference between thermal conductivity and heat transfer coefficient in graphene coolants for AI data centers: what lab tests show and what they don't.
Try it on your own system
We offer a 30-day sample so you can test the fill against your own baseline. See the data center coolants page for the full details and to download the one-pagers.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use ThermaGraph in an immersion tank?
No. ThermaGraph™ is graphene in deionized water and is electrically conductive. Use ThermaGraph-D™, the mineral-oil dielectric, for single-phase immersion.
What is the heat transfer improvement?
+6% to +18% higher convective heat transfer coefficient than a glycol baseline, in our internal pumped-loop tests. We encourage you to test against your own baseline.
Does ThermaGraph need glycol?
No. It is graphene in deionized water with no glycol, so it is for indoor loops that do not need freeze protection. Existing glycol is drained first.
