Graphene Textile Additive Opens Fabric Finishing and Coated Textiles to Graphene

Press release

Pre-dispersed for fabric finishes and coatings, the additive is designed for technical and performance textiles.

Dark technical fabric on a textile machine

— Graphene Integrations today announced its Graphene Textile Additive for fabric finishing, coated textiles and fiber development. It is aimed at mills and finishers working on technical and performance fabrics.

What graphene can add to a fabric

Graphene is known for thermal and electrical conductivity and for its strength, which has made it a material of interest for fabrics that manage heat, reduce static or hold up to hard use. The Graphene Textile Additive is designed to let textile makers test those properties in finishes and coatings they already apply. Graphene Integrations does not publish performance numbers for textiles; each trial is compared with the customer's current fabric.

“Textile finishers already have the lines, the recipes and the know-how. What they need is graphene that drops into the bath and stays put. That's the part we handle, and the fabric tests are theirs to run.”

— Frans Alkemade, CEO of Graphene Integrations

Into the finish you already run

The graphene is pre-dispersed in a water-based or resin carrier matched to the finishing process, so it can be added to a textile finish or coating and mixed until uniform. Typical dosing is 1% to 7% by weight, depending on the job. Finishers then apply it on their usual lines and run their normal wash, wear and hand tests.

Supply

The additive comes in 1 gallon jugs and 5 gallon pails, with bulk on request, and a technical data sheet is available. It is patent pending, made in the USA and contains no carbon black, and the graphene is never supplied as a dry powder.

About Graphene Integrations

Graphene Integrations, formerly Graphene America, is a US graphene manufacturer based in Charlotte, NC. The company makes graphene and supplies it pre-mixed in water, solvents, resins and oils, never as a dry powder, so manufacturers can add it to products and processes they already run. Its products are patent pending and made in the USA. Learn more about Graphene Integrations.
