Graphene Integrations makes graphene in Charlotte, NC and supplies it to composite makers dispersed in polymer resin, so it arrives already mixed in the carrier. Graphene is added to the resin to improve the mechanical properties of the composite, and the composite is then tested against the baseline material.
Our composites work
Working with Advanced Armor Research Group (AARG), we developed graphene-integrated polymers and composites for aerospace and armor applications. They were evaluated with V50 ballistic testing at the NTS Chesapeake ballistic and materials testing facility in Belcamp, MD. V50 is the impact velocity at which a projectile is expected to defeat a given material about half the time, a standard way to compare armor materials. We have not published V50 numbers for these composites and make no claims about protection levels. Read the press release.
Where graphene is being explored in composites
- Armor: graphene in polymer and fiber composites for body armor, helmets and vehicle panels, with the aim of equal protection at lower weight (graphene armor composites).
- Aerospace structures: graphene in resins and fiber-reinforced composites for stiffer, tougher parts (graphene in commercial aerospace).
- Lightning strike and static protection: graphene's conductivity is studied for composite skins that need to carry current.
This work is at the development stage. Armor products must be tested and certified to the standards that apply before use, and aerospace materials are qualified program by program. Application testing is done with each customer, in your resin and composite.
How graphene for composites is supplied
We disperse graphene into the polymer resin used in your composite, so it arrives already mixed in the carrier. Graphene is always supplied pre-mixed in a carrier or dispersion, never as dry flake or powder. See graphene dispersions for the carriers we work with.
How a composites project works
- Tell us about your composite: the resin and fiber system, the process and the property you want to improve.
- Samples by quote: we disperse graphene into your resin and quote R&D samples.
- Application testing: you build and test parts against your own baseline material, and we adjust the dispersion with you.
- Scale-up and supply: once the composite works, we supply graphene pre-dispersed in that resin, made in Charlotte, NC.
Pricing and samples are by quote.
Frequently asked questions
Do you sell graphene armor or finished composite parts?
No. We supply graphene dispersed in resin to manufacturers and partners, who make and test the composite.
Have you published performance numbers for your composites?
No. Our composites developed with AARG were evaluated with V50 testing at NTS Chesapeake, but we have not published V50 numbers and make no claims about protection levels, weight or strength.
Is your graphene qualified for aircraft parts?
No. Aerospace qualification is done program by program, and our work is at the development stage. We are looking for aerospace and defense partners to evaluate graphene in their own composites.
What form does the graphene come in?
Graphene comes pre-dispersed in resin or another carrier, never as dry flake or powder. Tell us your resin system through the quote form.
