ThermaGraph Graphene Coolants Target Liquid-Cooled Data Centers With Lab-Tested Heat Transfer

Press release

ThermaGraph for closed water loops and ThermaGraph-D for single-phase immersion give operators a new fill for the hardware they already run.

Liquid-cooled server racks in a data center

— Graphene Integrations today announced ThermaGraph, its line of graphene coolants for data center liquid cooling. The line has two separate products: ThermaGraph, graphene in deionized water for indoor closed loops, and ThermaGraph-D, graphene in white mineral oil for single-phase immersion tanks.

Lab and model results for ThermaGraph

In internal pumped-loop lab tests, ThermaGraph showed a 6% to 18% higher convective heat transfer coefficient than a glycol baseline. In an engineering model of a 1 MW data center at a PUE of 1.30, that translated to 20 to 58 kW saved per 1 MW of load, from the conservative to the optimistic case. The heat transfer figure is lab data, not field data, and the kW figure is modeled, not measured. No performance numbers are published for ThermaGraph-D yet.

“Data centers run on measurements, so we lead with ours and say exactly where each number comes from: 6 to 18% better heat transfer than glycol in our lab, and a modeled 20 to 58 kW per megawatt. Operators should test it in their own loop and hold us to it.”

Same hardware, new fill

ThermaGraph works on the fluid side. It replaces the liquid that carries heat away from cold plates, CDUs, direct-to-chip and rear-door heat exchangers in indoor, closed copper loops where freeze protection is not specified. It is a new fill, not a top-off, so glycol loops are drained first. Each product carries graphene at a low loading of 0.05 to 0.20 wt%, stated on the certificate of analysis. ThermaGraph-D is a dielectric fluid for boards that sit directly in a single-phase tank. The two products should not be mixed or used in place of each other.

Who it's for

ThermaGraph is for operators, cooling engineers and integrators who want to test a new fill in a system they already run, using their own baseline data. Both products are patent pending and made in the USA.

About Graphene Integrations

Graphene Integrations, formerly Graphene America, is a US graphene manufacturer based in Charlotte, NC. The company makes graphene and supplies it pre-mixed in water, solvents, resins and oils, never as a dry powder, so manufacturers can add it to products and processes they already run. Its products are patent pending and made in the USA. Learn more about Graphene Integrations.
