Graphene Coatings Additive

Graphene Integrations makes graphene in Charlotte, NC and supplies it to coating and paint makers as an additive, pre-dispersed in the carrier your formulation uses. A small amount of graphene is mixed into a coating you already make, and you test it against your own baseline. We do not sell graphene as dry flake or powder.

Where graphene is used in coatings

  • Car care coatings: we developed four graphene car care products with ITW for its Black Magic and Rain-X brands (ITW case study).
  • Barrier coatings: flat graphene platelets can lengthen the path water and oxygen have to travel through a coating, which is why graphene is studied for corrosion protection.
  • Wear and corrosion protection in aircraft: coatings are one of the areas where graphene is being explored in aerospace (graphene in commercial aerospace).
  • Glass: graphene in coatings is studied for protecting glass surfaces; this work is still in research and development (graphene and glass).

Coating performance has to be proven in each formulation, so we do not publish general coating results. Application testing is done with each customer, in your coating and against your own baseline.

How graphene for coatings is supplied

  • Solvent dispersions: for solvent-based coatings and car care products.
  • Water-based dispersions: for water-based coatings.
  • Resin dispersions: where the graphene needs to go into the resin system.

Graphene is always supplied pre-mixed in a carrier or dispersion, never as dry powder, so you add a liquid rather than a dust. See graphene dispersions for the carriers we work with.

How a coatings project works

  1. Tell us about your coating: the chemistry, the carrier and the property you want to improve.
  2. Samples by quote: we suggest a starting dispersion and quote R&D samples.
  3. Application testing: you test the graphene in your coating against your own baseline, and we adjust the dispersion with you.
  4. Scale-up and supply: once a formulation works, we supply graphene pre-dispersed in that carrier, made in Charlotte, NC.

Pricing and samples are by quote.

Frequently asked questions

Do you sell graphene powder for coatings?

No. We supply graphene only pre-dispersed in a carrier, such as a solvent, water or a resin, so it mixes into your coating without handling dry powder.

What results can graphene give in my coating?

We do not publish general coating results, because performance depends on the formulation. Application testing is done with each customer, in your coating and against your own baseline.

Which carrier do I need?

It depends on your coating. Solvent dispersions suit solvent-based coatings, water-based dispersions suit water-based coatings, and resin dispersions suit resin systems. Tell us your formulation through the quote form and we will suggest a starting point.

Where is the graphene made?

We make graphene in Charlotte, NC and disperse it into the carrier your process needs.
