Graphene Plastic Additive Offers Compounders a Resin-Ready Route to Graphene

Press release

Pre-dispersed in a resin matched to the customer's polymer, the additive is designed for injection molding, extrusion and compounding trials.

— Graphene Integrations today introduced its Graphene Plastic Additive for thermoplastic and thermoset compounds. The graphene is pre-dispersed in a resin matched to the customer's polymer, so compounders can add it during compounding instead of handling a dry nanomaterial.

What compounders are looking for

Graphene is known for its strength, stiffness and barrier properties, and it is widely studied as a way to help plastics carry more load or slow the passage of gases and moisture. The Graphene Plastic Additive is designed to help manufacturers evaluate those properties in parts and compounds they already make. Graphene Integrations is not publishing performance numbers for plastics; each trial is measured against the customer's current compound.

“Plastics people know their resins better than anyone, so we match the carrier to their polymer and stay out of the way. Run it in your own parts, compare it to your baseline, and let the results decide.”

— Frans Alkemade, CEO of Graphene Integrations

Dispersion is the hard part

Getting graphene evenly spread through a polymer is where many projects stall. Supplying it already dispersed in a compatible resin is meant to remove that step. Typical dosing is 1% to 7% by weight, depending on the job, and the team suggests a starting rate for each polymer and process, whether injection molding, extrusion or composite layup.

Supply

The additive is available in 1 gallon jugs and 5 gallon pails, with bulk on request, and a technical data sheet is available. It is patent pending, made in the USA and contains no carbon black. Graphene is never sold as a dry powder.

About Graphene Integrations

Graphene Integrations, formerly Graphene America, is a US graphene manufacturer based in Charlotte, NC. The company makes graphene and supplies it pre-mixed in water, solvents, resins and oils, never as a dry powder, so manufacturers can add it to products and processes they already run. Its products are patent pending and made in the USA. Learn more about Graphene Integrations.
