Advanced Armor Research Group

Advanced Armor Research Group (AARG) is a partner Graphene Integrations has worked with on graphene-integrated polymers and composites for aerospace and armor applications. According to AARG's own website, it is a privately held American company that provides engineered armor solutions for military vehicles and other platforms that need reduced weight.

What we worked on together

Working with AARG, we developed graphene-integrated polymers and composites. The composites were evaluated with V50 ballistic testing at the NTS Chesapeake ballistic and materials testing facility in Belcamp, MD. V50 is the impact velocity at which a projectile is expected to defeat a given armor material about half the time, and it is a standard way to compare armor materials.

How graphene is added

We disperse graphene into the polymer resin used in the composite, so it arrives already mixed in the carrier. We sell graphene only pre-dispersed, never as dry flake or powder. Graphene is added to the resin to improve the mechanical properties of the composite, and the composite is then tested against the baseline material.

What we do and do not claim

This work is at the development stage. We have not published V50 numbers for our composites, so we make no claims about protection levels. Armor products must be tested and certified to the standards that apply before use, and aerospace materials are qualified program by program.
